Artist Statement:

I created this work in order to express an urge to get back in touch with nature, not merely the raw beauty or destructiveness inherent within our physical world that we can see, but in addition to connect with something more primal that lies deeper in the psyche. This urge stems from a desire to return to a simpler way of being a way of living in harmony with our environment.

This connection to our deep past I see as pure existence. It is the essence of our origins and is ultimately where we all come from. I want to remind my viewers of an unadulterated way of being that differs from the intrusive, arrogant, condescending, superior approach to life that most humans have now adopted. I expect that most of this will not be fully understood by a light viewing of the work but will still be embedded in some part of their psyche (soul) that the viewer might understand in a more intimate intuitive manner on a very subtle even subliminal level.

I want the viewer to come away with a sense of a connectedness to something more fundamentally profound than our small mundane everyday lives. It is a universal experience and spiritual a connection. This work differs slightly from past works in that I am clearer in what I want to reveal to my audience in my art. I am still working with organic shapes, rich muted colors and landscapes that are closely related to nature. I believe that the essence of our roots our subsistence is more real and powerful union, connection with the world, the universe and all of existence than the artificial "civilized" world that we live in now.
